Website Update

I received my first comment on a post from a viewer which was really exciting. It made everything seem so real! Yes, I know I am putting this on the internet but I wasn’t sure if anyone would ever find it. I look forward to reading my viewers’ responses from my posts and engaging with them to see if it was informative and helpful to them, as I hope. Perhaps they will have come with good ideas to share as well. This quote “Everything we research online is data being collected or stored. We willingly tag ourselves in specific locations through social media platforms that require our location information” was eye opening to me. Once we put something on the interest, it is there forever. This is why I carefully selected my content and design decisions because I wanted to be proud of the work I published. I plan to continue posting on my website as it is something I want to look back at when I am older and remember all of the beautiful places I have visited.

Canva

Canva is a free graphic design platform that’s great for making invitations, business cards, Instagram posts, and more. A drag and drop interface makes customizing thousands of templates simple and easy. Canva’s wide array of features allow you to edit photos without extensive photo editing knowledge or experience. It will allow you to assemble graphics and create something that suits your taste and your brand image.

The first step is choosing the layout and template you’d like, then comes the customization. Everything is drag and drop, and text can be edited much like text boxes in any other graphic design software. I’ll admit, it is very easy to use. If you’re a complete newbie, with no design skills, Canva would probably be a better option for you it is very user friendly

Google Analytics

Google Analytics helps you to keep a track of all the content that receives views and shares. With this data, you can enhance the top viewed blogs so that they appeal to the customers in a more productive manner. Google Analytics generates a breakdown of the page views each of your blog posts receive which is very helpful.

This service is the most comprehensive tracking tool available on the market. It gives you detailed data about your website visitors and the actions they take on your site. You’ll be able to see what people are doing on your site after they click on an email you send them and beyond.

Google Analytics can be difficult to understand and dissect. When I first explored this software I thought it was quite complex, compares to WordPress which I found to be beginner friendly.

Peer Review Suggestions

http://briannacarniel.com Made a suggestion of including material outside of places to visit, such as packing tips. I thought that was a really cool idea and I made a post all bout it. Packing is a basic necessity when it comes to travelling and if your gonna do it, you should do it right. New comment made me realize I don’t have to have a super small niche in my website only dedicated to different places around the world. I can expand it and endulhe in the whole experience of travelling. This led to me posting outfit inspiration for travelling. These posts made my website more well rounded and I hope my viewers found them helpful.

Design Elements & WordPress

It all started by creating an account on WordPress. As someone who has never been exposed to WordPress before, it was challenging; however, after several posts, it became easier. Creating a the website was the first time for me, so all of this came with trial and error, but rewatching tutorials helped. Becoming familiar with WordPress boosted my online self’s confidence, and I was excited to share all of my travel tips with my audience.

The first important decision in creating the website was my website name. I Chose “wanderlustandtrust” because I hope the reader will trust my opinions and experiences and carry them with you on your next adventures.  Design decisions included the pastel pink background, to have a warm and inviting feel. I also included photographs of travel destinations to make them appear vibrant and colourful to catch the reader’s eye. They are memes, which can take away some stress when planning for a trip, so users feel at ease.

Personalizing Touches

In my About Me section I opened up to my viewers about life as a student, I know how easy it is to get caught up in our day to day busy schedules, and travel is a break from our Fast-paced lives. I have been travelling since I was three months old and have fostered a strong desire to travel ever since. As well as traveling with my family I was also able to travel with my sports team to local destinations. This really brought into perspective how accessible travelling really is, and we don’t have to go very far to sample a change in culture. I have gained so much life experience from talking to new people, to adapting to new cultures. I am grateful to have been able to nurture my love for travel and adventure. Looking back at personal experiences from hotels I have stayed and restaurants I have enjoyed, I can personally make these recommendations. My website is motivated by interest, not profit. I always share my true feelings about places I have visited. With this information I hope the viewers feel like they are listening to a friend, someone they can count on for advice.

Update

I have learned that people want concise and valuable information rather than a post that is several pages long and not helpful. I try to include visuals of all the places so that they can imagine their upcoming trip, to make it more engaging. Linking is an important tool I have learned, it has helped my audience connect to my platform and bring new audiences to my website. Overseeing how many people visit my website, and which posts are more popular help me alter my website to fit my viewers interests.  I always felt. Comfortable when posting online because WordPress has data security, as a publisher it is important to know my personal information and the viewers are protected.

I realize all the details that come with posting and creating a website. Before this course I had an idea of what publishing was, and never knew it’s true meaning. This quote “Publication is the creation and/or shaping of a public is such a central idea for artists and writers.” (Stadler, 2010)  helped me fully understand the concept of publishing.

Find Me on Pinterest

Now that my website is coming together, I am gathering the finishing touches. The posts are categorized so that my blog where I talk about travelling is under the travel menu on the top right hand corner. The Essays, process posts and mini assignments will go under the PUB 101 menu in order for my academic work to stay organized. I decided to Keep all of my PUB 1o1 content in a separate menu so my viewers for my travel blog don’t get confused.

I decided to create a pinterest board all about travel inspiration! If you would like to follow me feel free to click this link: https://www.pinterest.ca/fionahelen7/
